“The Loop” is a trail near our house. I’m not clear as to what the actual name of the trail is, but all of the residents up on this mountain know it as “the loop.” It can be a loop, but you can also easily jump onto the Boone Fork Trail or the Mountains to Sea Trail, or some other trail that I’m not sure where it goes. It is also where we run most of our morning runs. Sometimes if we are having one of those “if I don’t get out of this house this instant, I am going to SCREAM” days, we will just hike to the loop with our loaner dog Barry. Like this cold and foggy day.
How To Get There:
There are a few different way to access The Loop. You can access the trail on foot from Old Turnpike Road just to the left of the pond in the last photo, or another entrance further down the road. But beware, there is no formal parking area for either entrance. The easiest access point is via the MST at the top of Shulls Mill Road (you can park in a pull off area just past Old Turnpike Road).
